Firner Trautwein has been manufacturing complex, customer-specific precision turned parts for over 150 years. The experience we have gained since then has given us a broad knowledge of a wide range of machining alloys. Whether robustness, water and steam resistance, electrical conductivity or low weight – together we will find the optimum solution material for your requirements.

Materials

The choice of machining materials for precision turned parts depends on the specific requirements of your project. At Firner Trautwein, we are very familiar with the different machining properties and material qualities.

Brass

Brass is considered an all-rounder among the various machining materials, as it offers numerous advantages. Almost all physically, chemically and technically desired properties can be achieved with this material. Brass is characterized in particular by its good machining properties and is extremely resistant to corrosion. Its resistance to water and steam as well as its robustness make it an ideal material for numerous applications. The electrical conductivity of brass is also an important requirement in many projects.
As an alloy of copper and zinc, there are numerous types of brass that differ in their composition. Brass types with a high zinc content are particularly easy to machine. We at Firner Trautwein have also been familiar with the machining of lead-free alloys for decades.

Aluminum

Aluminum is particularly impressive due to its combination of strength and lightness. There are various aluminum material groups that have different machining properties. Very high stability can be achieved by using different alloys. Nevertheless, aluminum is light and is therefore used especially where low weight is important. In vehicle construction and aerospace, for example, the material helps to reduce weight and energy consumption. Lead-free alternatives to aluminum have been standard on the market for some time.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel is more versatile than almost any other material. Its various alloys make it suitable for a wide range of industries and applications. The material is robust and temperature-resistant. Stainless steel is also low-wear and low-maintenance, which makes it an ideal material for use in various projects. The corrosion resistance and durability of stainless steel make it ideal for use as a turned part.

Copper

Copper is widely used due to its unique properties. With its high thermal conductivity, it is particularly suitable for machining processes where efficient heat dissipation is crucial to minimize tool wear. The electrical conductivity of copper makes it a preferred material in the electronics industry, particularly in the manufacture of plugs, pins, sockets, terminals and other electronic components. Not least due to electrification in the automotive industry, the red-brown gold is also experiencing a renaissance in the machining industry.

Steel

Steel is a versatile metallic material and is used in various applications due to its impressive properties. The material is characterized by its high strength and is corrosion-resistant with the appropriate surface coating. Even though its machinability is poorer than that of brass, the material is widely used on the market as an ideal alternative due to its lower procurement costs.
